01The problem
An estimate was three jobs done by hand: measuring quantities off the drawings, building the bill of quantities line by line with the firm’s productivities, and splitting the work into packages to request rates from suppliers and subcontractors. About two days, much of it retyping between them.
02What we built
Takeoffs measured from the drawings automatically, with a person editing where needed. Each schedule line is broken down into the firm’s own resources and productivity rates and paired with the right takeoff quantities. Lines are grouped into packages, and requests for quote go out from the same place. Every number shows where it came from, so the estimator stays in charge.
03The result
Takeoffs and quantities went from about five hours to twenty minutes, building the bill of quantities with productivities from about a day to an hour, and requesting rates from about five hours to thirty minutes.
